Show and Share Giving and Generosity

In light of what the adults are learning, 1 Peter 1:13-21, the children learned today that part of being obedient to God is to be a giving, compassionate and generous person. 1 Peter 1:17 “Be you holy for I am Holy”, As God is holy and gave the most precious thing, His son, we need to be willing to give. Jesus teaches us that giving is a blessed act. We talked about the hard times people and children might have. We need to have compassion. We talked about Jesus' command to “love others as he has loved us.” 

Matthew 26:6-19 We did a flannel board story of the woman who gave her most precious ointment. She poured it on Jesus’ head. She is giving all she has to honor Jesus, others did not understand. We give for God and Christ's sake. Others might not understand.    

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Every human being you’ll ever meet was created to bear the image of God. Jesus loves them and died for them. It is always our privilege to help someone with our giving, no matter where they come from or how different they might be.

Proverbs 19:11 Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He (God) will reward them for what they have done.
God wants us to help those in need. He wants us to be KIND by giving. He will reward us for our giving

You can’t really understand the gospel message if you don’t realize your great need before God and His great mercy. And it is because God is such a lavish giver that we are called to be generous people too.

Acts 20:35 - In all things iI have shown you that jby working hard in this way we must help the  weak and lremember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, “ It is more blessed to give than receive” 

Proverbs 28:27 "Whoever gives to the poor will lack nothing, but those who close their eyes to poverty will be cursed."    We looked at those in need.

Jesus gave the greatest gift. He gave his life so that we can have eternal life. He gave his life so that we have God’s spirit living in us. God encourages our hearts to give and to have compassion. God wants us to trust Him in all ways. Giving helps us to trust God. Giving is being obedient to God and take care of others. 

Luke 6:38 - "Give, and you will receive.  Your gift will return to you in full - pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap." They saw a demonstration of flour being measured, shaken down then running over the top.

Family activity. Talk to your family about ways that you can practice giving in all areas. Talk about the woman with the alabaster box and the extremely expensive oil. What can each person in the family do that will help another person in need. Write down a task of giving that each person can do, that is out of the normal daily routine. To teach them the joy of giving, do something as a family by giving to another in your community or extended family
