Today we learned about Proverbs 15:1 “A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” God cares very much about our words. They can help other people or hurt other people. God is careful about the words He uses with us, they’re full of many encouraging words to us, words of truth and love.
Jesus Christ is our greatest example of how to use words. I Peter 2:23 says “When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.” Jesus Christ did not let people’s wrath (anger) toward him cause him to speak harsh words. Instead, Jesus trusted in God.
We can remember Ephesians 4:29 “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” We can give grace to others by giving them a gentle and soft answer when they’re speaking angrily. This will help the person turn away from their wrath and anger.
