Today I learned that when I trust God with all of my heart then my emotions will follow.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. Proverbs 3:5-7 (ESV)
God gave us emotions, but sometimes our emotions do not reflect God's heart and Word and these emotions can cause us to sin. But our emotions do not need to rule us. As we take time to trust God we will be able to turn away from the emotions that lead us to do the wrong thing. The way to trust God is by not leaning to what we see and think but to bring God into our thinking. When we keep God in our heart and keep the word of God in our heart we see how God will be there for us to lean on. Trusting God is plainly explained in Proverbs 3:5-7.
When we have emotions, anger, jealousy, envy or even sadness we need to ask ourselves, why do I think so? We can train our minds not to look at the "unfairness" but to look at how much God really loves us. God can help us do this!
Family Activity
Talk about some records in God's word when things did not look fair. How did Jesus, Jeremiah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah respond to the wrong done to them in their lives?
