Show & Share - Proverbs - Which Path?
Today I learned that I can choose the path of God’s wisdom or the path of foolishness.
Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you.
Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure.
Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil.
Pro 4:25-27
As a continuation of our Youth Ministry teaching series on Proverbs, we learned more about God’s wisdom versus the “wisdom” of the world. We looked at the figure of the two paths in the book of Proverbs. We discussed the characteristics of the path of life, in which wisdom is crying out, and the characteristics of the path leading to death, in which the foolish woman is trying to trick people to join her. We had two paths and the kids put the correct characteristics on each path. Then I asked them, how do you know which path you are on? We discussed how we learn God’s wisdom by the bible and through prayer, but also that we need to ponder or think about the path of our feet. What am I thinking about? What am I doing? Do these things match up with God’s wisdom?
We then acted out the wise woman and the foolish woman calling out from her path. The wise woman was dressed modestly with a simple box that was full of treasures and the foolish woman was dressed elegantly with a treasure chest full of disgusting items. These women then called out to the “simple one” trying to decide which path to take. The rest of the class encouraged that person to not turn aside to the foolish woman but to go to the path of life! Lastly, I gave the kids some real life examples related to lying, covetousness, and disobedience. Reminding them that these ideas come from the things we see in this world or thoughts that pop into our head and we need to replace them with God’s wisdom and stay on the path of life! Thankfully, we have spirit and God’s truth to guide us!
Family Activity:
- See if your children can remember some of the characteristics of God’s wisdom versus the wisdom of the world. They can write or draw those on the back of this page.
- Pick a verse to memorize to help your child hold onto God’s wisdom in an area of weakness for them.
