Today I learned that I should always pray and not give up!

Jesus told his disciples a story. He wanted to show them that they should always pray and not give up. Luke 18:1 (NIRV)

As a continuation of our Youth Ministry teaching series, The Teachings of Jesus Christ, we learned the parable of the persistent widow and the unjust judge (Luke 18:1-8).  Jesus Christ told this parable to remind us to always pray and not give up, just like the widow woman did not give up!  We discussed all the reasons that the widow woman might have stopped begging the judge to make things right: too tired, not seeing anything change, or thinking that he wasn’t listening.  But she didn’t let these things stop her and the judge did change his mind and help her because of her persistence.  We can pray in this same way!  

We also discussed that God is not like this judge.  He loves to hear from us.  He desires to make things right.  He is always listening to us.  He is good and right.  We finally talked about reasons we might stop praying: we don’t feel like it, we don’t see things change, or we think God doesn’t care.  The kids were encouraged to tell God everything on their heart and at all times! God wants us to come to Him and not give up praying!  We made prayer bracelets to help remind us to keep praying to God.  

Family Activity: 

**Create a prayer prompt jar to keep in your dining room using the attached prompts or write your own specific prayer requests.  Simply grab a jar and some large popsicle sticks.  Cut and paste (or write) the prompts to the sticks and keep them in a jar.  At meals, families can pull a prompt to pray for!
