Show & Share - Teachings of Jesus Christ - Parable of Talents

His master said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.”  - Matthew 25:21 (ESV)

As a continuation of our Youth Ministry teaching series, The Teachings of Jesus Christ, we learned about the parable of talents. We started with talking about parables, what they are, and how Jesus used them to communicate to the people and customs of that time. We then looked at Matthew 25:14-30. The record describes a master and his 3 servants. He entrusts a large sum of money to each servant with an expectation that it will be utilized. Upon his return the master requires each servant to report how they’ve utilized what was entrusted to them. Two of the servants work diligently and faithfully, and multiply the money for their master. The third servant does nothing positive with the treasure entrusted to him and he doesn’t understand the master’s heart and is even scared of him. The master is very pleased with the two servants who work faithfully and multiply his money, he rewards them with more, and they are invited to share in his joy. The master is very displeased with the third servant who did nothing with the treasure entrusted to him, this servant is cast out and will not join in the master’s joy. 

This is a great parallel to how we are supposed to act as servants of Christ, being diligent with what we’ve received, being excited for our master’s return, and ready to give an account. Let’s work diligently and joyfully unto our Lord and do everything to the best of our ability. It is out reasonable response to what God did for us in Christ!
