Show & Share - Sufferings of Christ

Today I learned that Jesus Christ trusted God in his suffering.

“...But if you suffer for doing good, and you are patient, then that pleases God. That is what you were called to do. Christ suffered for you. He gave you an example to follow. So you should do as he did.  “He did no sin. He never lied.” People insulted Christ, but he did not insult them in return. Christ suffered, but he did not threaten. He let God take care of him. God is the One who judges rightly.”  1 Peter 2:20b‭-‬23 ICB

As a continuation of our Youth Ministry teaching series, Knowing your Lord, we looked at the sufferings of our lord.  He is a lord who is familiar with our pains and sufferings in this life.  We looked at three ways in which he suffered: hated and rejected by people; falsely accused and treated unfairly; suffered physical and emotional pain at the cross.  We first looked at some records in the gospel where people said mean lies about WHO he was: from and working for the devil, illegitimate son, and a crazy person (Mark 3:20-23; John 8:41).  We then walked through the crucifixion of Christ and highlighted all the ways in which he suffered and his example in those sufferings.  We looked at: the mental pressure on him in the garden of Gethsemane as he needed God’s help to face the cross, how he was abandoned by his friends, betrayed by one of his disciples, mocked, falsely accused, beaten, and killed.  We saw his example in how he still loved those around him, forgave others, did not fight back with his words or actions, entrusted His life to God and kept eternal thinking in his mind. (Hebrews 12:2-3) 

Family Activity: 

Ask your kids if they remember any of the ways in which their lord suffered.
