Show & Share - Jesus' humility

Today I learned about the humility of Jesus Christ…

[Jesus said,] “I am not trying to get honor for myself… If I give honor to myself, that honor is worth nothing. The One who gives me honor is my Father…” John 8:50, 54 (ICB)

As a continuation of our Youth Ministry teaching series, Knowing your Lord, we looked at Jesus’ humility. But first we learned about what the words humility and humble mean. Then we talked about how even though Jesus is the only begotten son of God, the King of Kings, and the Christ (among other wonderful titles), he was born in a stable and didn’t live or act like a worldly king. He also didn’t brag about who he was or ask people to worship and praise him or give him the glory; Jesus always gave God credit and glorified and praised him.

We also talked about humility in serving others and caring for others’ needs above our own. Though we know that Christ dying on the cross is the ultimate example of this, we will be looking at this more in depth in the coming weeks, so instead we looked at how Christ healed the multitudes and washed his disciples’ feet. And then we discussed how Christ didn’t deny who he was, and that being humble isn’t about denying who we are or even the abilities God has given us; it’s about recognizing how BIG God is and making him BIG in our hearts, giving Him the credit and glory for all good things in our lives, putting others’ needs before our own, and serving others just like our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, did and does!
